Anthropic, a ChatGPT rival, has proposed a settlement of at least $1.5 billion in a class-action lawsuit filed by authors alleging the company trained its AI using hundreds of thousands of books without permission. The settlement proposal requires payments of approximately $3,000 per work, plus the destruction of the illegally collected datasets. It is being noted as the largest proposed settlement to date in the AI industry over copyright infringement issues.
