South Korean genome editing company ToolGen announced that it has strengthened its patent portfolio through 2025 and has now entered a “harvest phase” focused on monetizing its intellectual property. After the groundwork was laid by EVP of IP Mr. Kim, newly appointed Chief Legal Officer Dave Koo will lead global patent litigation and licensing negotiations, including actively pursuing infringement lawsuits against companies such as Vertex. This strategy, which intensifies licensing negotiations for CRISPR patents, is expected to accelerate IP monetization in the biotechnology sector.

韓国のゲノム編集企業ToolGenは、2025年までに特許ポートフォリオを強化し、今後は特許の収益化に注力する「収穫期」に入ったと発表した。同社は知財担当EVPであるキム氏が基盤を整えたうえで、新任CLOのDave Koo氏が世界的な特許訴訟とライセンス交渉を主導し、Vertexなどに対する侵害訴訟を積極的に進めると述べている。CRISPR特許のライセンス交渉を本格化させるこの方針は、バイオテクノロジー分野でのIP収益化を加速させる。
