U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upholds PTAB's decision to invalidate gesture technology patent

The Federal Circuit upheld the Patent Trial and Appeal Board's (PTAB) decision invalidating claims 11 and 13 of a motion sensor technology patent, ruling that “the Board retains jurisdiction even after the patent expires.” Following Samsung's reexamination request, other claims were also invalidated in IPRs filed by Apple and Unified Patents, and the patent holder's arguments were rejected.
特許審判部（PTAB）がモーションセンサ技術特許の請求項11および13を無効と判断した決定について、連邦巡回控訴裁は「特許満了でも審査権限は失われない」として支持した。サムスンの再審査請求に始まり、AppleやUnified PatentsのIPRで他の請求項も無効となっており、特許保有者の主張は退けられた
